A DIFFERENT APPROACH TO CARE
Our Practice
We have a particular interest in supporting high-achieving women experiencing anxiety, burnout, and life or hormonal changes, while welcoming patients of all backgrounds. Your culture, relationships, responsibilities, identity, and lived experiences are important parts of the care we provide.
OUR TREATMENT PHILOSOPHY
What you are experiencing deserves a careful assessment. We consider your symptoms alongside your physical health, sleep, daily demands, relationships, and personal history. We also make room for the beliefs and values that matter to you.
Treatment may include medication, psychotherapy, or both. We explain our recommendations, discuss the benefits and risks, and decide on the next steps with you. As care continues, we review what is helping, what remains difficult, and what may need to change.
OUR MISSION
To offer high quality, comprehensive, safe, culturally responsive outpatient mental health treatment to our local community that is free of discrimination and judgement in a boutiquelike warm setting.
To care equally about your physical and mental wellbeing and prioritize comprehensive patient wellness in treatment decisions.
To offer mentorship experiences to our local graduate students.
To serve ambitious and high functioning women move beyond surviving to thriving
To serve our local community through outreach events, making it less mystical to speak about one’s mental health and get the care you need. We want you to understand your treatment, feel comfortable asking questions, and know that we will keep working with you in good and low times. Showing up for our patients is cnetral to why we do this work.
By combining expertise with compassion, empathy, cultural awareness, and a boutique client experience, we empower the mind to reduce anxiety and recover from burnout and better navigate life transitions with confidence leading to achieving sustainable emotional well-being.

Our practice envisions a connected community of Likeminds where everyone has access to compassionate, personalized care that supports healing and emotional well-being. We believe that feeling heard and supported helps people build confidence, develop healthier coping skills, and move forward with hope. OUR STORY
Rooted in Family. Guided by Compassion.
Likeminds Behavioral Psychiatry grew from a shared belief that meaningful psychiatric care begins with listening to your story and understanding what matters to you. As sisters and psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners, Brenda and Linda Fonju bring the values of family, connection, and compassion to every patient relationship. From childhood adventures with our parents, and exploring the outdoors, we have discovered the beauty of connection, the strength of community, and the restorative power of nature.
We offer comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, medication management and psychotherapy, guided by your goals. We take time to build a therapeutic relationship to develop a treatment plan together —-one that considers your mental health alongside the relationships, responsibilities, and life changes that shape your wellbeing. And which is why our practice seeks to pay special interest in supporting high achieving women navigating anxiety, burnout, and life transitions, while welcoming individuals of all backgrounds.

Outside of practice, she is a mother who enjoys the outdoors, hiking, and photography; capturing the beauty of places and moments around her. That same curiosity and appreciation for each person's story shape the way she cares for her patients.

Her work today is centered largely in correctional psychiatry, alongside private practice and telepsychiatry.
She is also the co-founder of Likeminds Behavioral and serves as Clinical Education Faculty at the George Washington University School of Nursing, where she enjoys mentoring and supporting future psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners through their clinical journey.
Her academic path reflects the same dedication she brings to her practice. She later completed post-master’s advanced practice training at the George Washington University School of Nursing, further expanding her expertise across both family practice and psychiatric mental health. Dr. Fonju also holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree.
A proud first-generation doctoral graduate and devoted mother, Dr. Fonju’s story is one of purpose, perseverance, and graceful ambition. Whether caring for patients, mentoring students, or building something meaningful of her own, she leads with warmth, authenticity, and heart.
