A DIFFERENT APPROACH TO CARE
OUR STORY
Rooted in Family. Guided by Compassion.
Likeminds Behavioral Psychiatry grew from a shared belief that meaningful psychiatric care begins with listening to your story and understanding what matters to you. As sisters and psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners, Brenda and Linda Fonju bring the values of family, connection, and compassion to every patient relationship. From childhood adventures with our parents, and exploring the outdoors, we have discovered the beauty of connection, the strength of community, and the restorative power of nature.
We offer comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, medication management and psychotherapy, guided by your goals. We take time to build a therapeutic relationship to develop a treatment plan together —-one that considers your mental health alongside the relationships, responsibilities, and life changes that shape your wellbeing. And which is why our practice seeks to pay special interest in supporting high achieving women navigating anxiety, burnout, and life transitions, while welcoming individuals of all backgrounds.

Brenda Fonju, DNP, PMHNP-BC
Co-Founder, Likeminds Behavioral LLC
Dr. Brenda Fonju is a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner with experience caring for children, adolescents, and adults across inpatient, outpatient, and correctional settings. She brings that breadth of experience to Likeminds Behavioral, the practice she co-founded with her twin sister, Linda. Her approach is warm and attentive, grounded in the belief that excellent psychiatric care begins with understanding the whole person.
Dr. Fonju provides psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and psychotherapy. She has a special interest in women navigating anxiety, burnout, and life's transitions, while welcoming patients of all backgrounds and ages. Whether she is working with a young person or supporting an adult through a difficult chapter, she values care that is clear, collaborative, and personal.
A graduate of the University of Maryland School of Nursing, where she earned her Master of Science in Nursing, Dr. Fonju also holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree. Her interest in clinical education reflects a lasting commitment to learning and to the next generation of nurses. Her quality improvement work has focused on recognizing substance use earlier and connecting patients with timely support through screening, brief intervention, and warm handoffs.
Outside of practice, she is a mother who enjoys the outdoors, hiking, and photography; capturing the beauty of places and moments around her. That same curiosity and appreciation for each person's story shape the way she cares for her patients.
Dr. Linda N. Fonju, DNP, PMHNP-BC, FNP-C, is a clinician, educator, and healthcare leader whose work is shaped by compassion, excellence, and an unwavering belief in the power of human connection.
Dual-board certified in psychiatric mental health and family practice, Dr. Fonju brings more than a decade of nursing experience across psychiatry, correctional health, primary care, skilled nursing and rehabilitation, oncology, and acute care. Her work today is centered largely in correctional psychiatry, alongside private practice and telepsychiatry.
She is also the co-founder of Likeminds Behavioral and serves as Clinical Education Faculty at the George Washington University School of Nursing, where she enjoys mentoring and supporting future psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners through their clinical journey.
Her academic path reflects the same dedication she brings to her practice. She later completed post-master’s advanced practice training at the George Washington University School of Nursing, further expanding her expertise across both family practice and psychiatric mental health. Dr. Fonju also holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree.
A proud first-generation doctoral graduate and devoted mother, Dr. Fonju’s story is one of purpose, perseverance, and graceful ambition. Whether caring for patients, mentoring students, or building something meaningful of her own, she leads with warmth, authenticity, and heart.
Outside of her professional world, she treasures family, travel, the outdoors, beautiful experiences, and a life lived with intention.
